We are also home to Veterinary Dental Solutions (VDS); Dr. James Moore has been an associate professor of oral surgery at Michigan State University since 2006 and also performs advanced veterinary procedures at HHFA. More information about VDS is below.

  • Jim Moore, DVM

    Jim Moore, DVM

    Owner, Harborfront Hospital for Animals and Veterinary Dental Solutions
    A graduate of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Moore opened HHFA in July 1988 and Veterinary Dental Solutions in 2010.

    He has been an associate professor of oral surgery at the MSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital since 2005 and lectures to veterinarians and veterinary technicians at dental seminars across the country.

    Fur family: A naughty Siamese cat named “Symon Francis O’Toole” and a a scruff faced, three legged white Terrier/hooligan called "Dave Brubeck."

    Fun fact: It’s probably no surprise that Doc is a HUGE MSU Spartan fan. His other loves are his family, traveling, boating and reading. He simply can’t travel and boat every day, but there isn’t a day when he can’t be found, at some point, sitting and relaxing, for at least a few moments, with a book.
  • Joy Jackson, DVM

    Veterinarian
    Dr. Jackson grew up on the east side of the mitten and attended MSU for both her undergraduate studies and to earn her degree in veterinary medicine.

    Fun fact: This is Dr. Joy’s second stint at HHFA. She first worked here from 2002 until 2005, when she moved to Charleston, S.C, for several years. Happily for us, her family eventually returned to Michigan and she came back to HHFA in 2014.

    Human family: Dr. Joy has a son, Brady, who enjoys visiting the clinic often and who is very active at Spring Lake Public Schools.

    Fur family: Two playful kitties: “Cheddar” and “Colby” and a sweet French Bulldog "Olive," who can be found "working" at the clinic every day.
  • Michelle B.

    Receptionist

    Michelle joined the staff in the autumn of 2023. She is a 2018 graduate of Grand Valley State University with a bachelor of science degree in sociology. 

    Fun fact: Michelle enjoys spending time with friends and family, outdoor activities, puzzles, listening to music, and watching reruns of Friends. 

    Fur family: An Australian Shepherd named "Loki." They enjoy running together and have matching yellow rain coats. 



  • Elicia Bourne

    Groomer
    A pet groomer for more than 18 years, Elicia has been at HHFA since 2008. She and her husband have two children and the family loves traveling.

    Fun fact: Elicia has a passion for symphony music that in recent years motivated her to learn to play the violin.
  • Michelle Clark

    Michelle C.

    Veterinary Assistant
    Michelle graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in biology and has been a member of the HHFA staff since 2012. She and her husband became parents to a beautiful little girl in 2017.

    Fur family: Two cats, “JoJo” and “Rocky” and a dog named “Rosie.”

    Fun fact: She avidly collects pens and loves camping and reading in her spare time.
  • Jeanne

    Veterinary Assistant
    Jeanne lives in Spring Lake with her husband, Larry, two Westies “Violet” and “Bubbles” and two cats “Celia” and “Lily.” The couple enjoy traveling and boating with Violet and Bubbles. 

    Fun fact: Even though Jeanne started here in 1998, she says she still considers this her dream job.
     

  • Patti

    Marketing Director 
    The author of a memoir to be released on May 7 this year, Patti met Dr. Moore in 1977 as a high school student and married him in 1981. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University and designs and produces HHFA and VDS informational pieces.

    Fur family: Dr. Moore brought Patti a Siamese kitten in December 1981. They named him J.P (their initials) and he lived more than 17 years. Today, she has her second Siamese, Symon Francis O'Toole. Dave Brubeck the the three legged Terrier lives in her home as well  -- but that's Dr. Moore's problem. 

    Fun fact: She took her first ballet class at age 19 and the instructor told her that, while she showed promise, she was “too old” to start dancing. At age 53 she certified to teach dance fitness at Jazzercise of Spring Lake. She wishes she had that ballet instructor’s address.
  • Danielle

    Danielle

    LVT
    A graduate of the Baker College Veterinary Technician program, Danielle also received an associates degree in Applied Science.

    Fun fact: Dani is a huge sportsperson, spending as many hours as possible on the water and simply enjoying Pure Michigan. She enjoys golfing, fishing, hiking, and skiing.

    Fur family: "Hemi," a very energetic, Golden Retriever.
  • Sarah

    LVT
    A native of Grand Rapids, Sarah moved to the area in 2012 and earned her LVT from Baker College in Muskegon in 2018.

    Family: She is married and has three children. 

    Fur family: Four dogs, three cats, one guinea pig and a large fish tank. 

    Fun fact: Sarah enjoys kayaking, reading, and being a loving soccer mom.
  • Molly

    Special Projects Coordinator/Veterinary Assistant/Social Media
    Molly has been a fixture at HHFA since the day she was born; her father is owner Dr. James Moore. She has been a staff member since 2011. 

    Molly is a 2015 graduate of Michigan State University and she married her husband, Erik, in May, 2017. They have one child, a son named James, born on New Year's Eve 2021.

    Fur family: "Cooper," a Labrador Retriever. Molly and her husband raised Cooper for Leader Dogs for the Blind, however he was medically career changed in September, 2019, and now lives with the couple. In 2024 they adopted their newest fur family "Sully" a golden retriever from China.

    Fun facts: In her spare time Molly enjoys spending time with family, working in her vegetable garden and on home improvement projects.  

  • Harley

    Veterinary Assistant/Social Media

    Harley joined the staff at HHFA during the summer of 2021.

    She lives in Grand Haven with her husband and their son, Silas.

    Fur family: Two exuberant large dogs: "Phoebe" and "David", two cats: "Riley Bear" and "Viggo" and one sweet old dachshund "Uncle Ollie", who can usually be found trailing Harley throughout the clinic.

  • Linda Raterink

    Linda

    LVT
    A 2007 graduate of the Michigan State University Veterinary Technology Program, Linda is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys volleyball, swimming and simply spending time with her family.

    Fur family: Two beagles, “Sully” and "Kenzie" and two cats, “Jeter” and “Petrie.”

    Fun fact: Linda's quiet nature belies an adventurous streak: she loves roller coasters and has gone sky diving.
  • Shelley

    Veterinary Assistant / Office Manager
    Shelley has enjoyed working with HHFA for more than 20 years. She enjoys spending time with family, friends and her fur kids. She also enjoys running, spending time outdoors, hiking at our many city and state parks, listening to many types of music, reading and cooking. 

    Fun facts: She follows "Squid" the Brussels Griffon on social media and could watch endless episodes of James Corden's Carpool Karaoke.

    Veterinary Assistant
    Jodi is a familiar and friendly face around the clinic. She began working at HHFA shortly after graduating from Fruitport High School.

    She is married and has two children, Lainey and Chase. Her favorite activities are boating, spending time with family and friends, dancing, taking walks and spending time in the pool. 

    Fur family: The Tharp household includes two dogs, several cats and fish.

    Fun facts: She loves laying by the pool, going to concerts and camping in her free time.

    Lainey

    Veterinary Assistant

    Lainey joined the HHFA staff during the summer of 2021. She graduated from Grand Haven High School in 2023. She plans to obtain a cosmetologist license and become an esthetician. 

    Fur Family: The Tharp household has quite a menagerie including Lainey's cat "Peter" and she hopes to one day own a Corgi. 

    Fun Fact: Lainey is a third generation staff member. Her grandmother Gloria was one of the clinic's very first employees and her mother Jodi is also a longtime staff member. 
  • Jerry

    Laundry Attendant 

    Jerry is one of two resident felines at HHFA. He has lived at the clinic for many years. Having no formal education, Jerry worked his way up the ladder and is now our Chief Laundry Attendant. His favorite part of the job is monitoring the fresh, warm towels from the dryer. 

    Although he takes this position very seriously, he can often be found napping on the job. When Jerry isn't hard at work, he enjoys sleeping in cupboards, lounging behind the warm laboratory equipment and supervising the staff from atop the kennels.
  • CJ

    Food Science Specialist/Cheese Thief

    CJ is the newest feline fixture at HHFA, having joined the team in 2022. CJ is passionate about his role as Food Specialist, always willing to lend a helping hand in opening a bag of food or sampling a new flavor. He can often be found lounging at the reception desk, greeting clients and laying on the phones. 

    CJ dedicates all of his free time to improving his job skills. He has been known to steal staff lunches and can hear a cheese wrapper from a mile away. After exhausting himself with his duties, he enjoys a nice nap in the sun.
